National Sales VS Novated Leases: The Beginning
Mazda continues to dominate the Australian vehicle market.
What a start to the year! Mazda takes the lead alongside Toyota and won’t budge. We compared our novated leases to national sales for January and February 2018 and 2017 and the results were not surprising. It was clear that Mazda dominates the market as the only vehicle maker that appears in the top 2 most popular brands across the board.
The runner ups that battled it out in the top 10 novated leases in the first two months of 2017 and 2018 include Ford, Mitsubishi, Hyundai and Volkswagen to name a few. Compared to national sales, our novated leases matched the most popular car buying trends with the same names appearing in our top 10 novated leases.
In regards to national sales across January and February this year and in the last, Hyundai remained steady in 3rd or 4th place with their sales increasing from last year.
With a strong start to the year could Hyundai be a worthy match for Mazda?
You be the judge. Would you take out a novated lease on a 2017 Hyundai i30 SR Premium or a 2017 Mazda CX-5 MAXX?
Both cars are in a similar price range. The i30 might be a little faster than the CX-5 however both vehicles have about 50 litre fuel tank capacity. Mazda may have some competition with such models as the faster and more compact Hyundai i30.
Mazda may have met its match with the i30 as the 4th and 5th most popular nationally sold car at the beginning of 2017 – more popular than the CX-5 at the time. However Mazda fights for first place with the Mazda 3 being the most popular car for both January and February 2017 AND January 2018. The Mazda 3 has slipped in popularity since down to 4th place but with the CX-5 on the rise – and ahead of the i30.
Compared to the novated leasing realm, there is no particular pattern as almost every model novated is different. However a spike in the number Mazda CX-5s came through last month.
Alongside the Mazda 3, competitors in the top 4 most popular cars sold include the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger and Toyota Corolla. The fight is on as the challengers battle it out for popularity to start off this year and the last.
Overall it’s clear that our novated leases reflect the most popular vehicle makers. However there were inconsistent patterns in relation to popularity of different car models bought and leased.
